Introduction on new civil code now makes wedding tourism possible in Aruba Effective January 2002, the New Civil Code of Aruba was introduced. As a result of this new legislation it will be now possible for foreign nationals to have a civil ceremony under Aruba law, during their vacation. The requirements are simple and easy to comply with. One must provide certain specific documentation to the Civil Registrar. The documentation required is: the respective birth certificates; documents if you have been previously married and divorced (or if you are a widow(er); The Registrar's office will determine the authenticity and validity of the documentation before providing a marriage license. The documentation can be send via fax or regular mail, although courier service is strongly suggested, before the arrival of the 'to-be-weds' so that there is no delay. This is important in connection with the waiting period of 14 days as required per law. Once the documentation have been verified, one must appear before the Registrar with two witnesses in order to obtain the marriage license, which is valid for one (1) year after the date of the issuance. All other arrangements such as locations and arrangements can be made through your local hotel, travel agent or event planner.
